Glasgow singer Ryan Lawrie who appeared on this weekend's X-Factor auditions has been revealed as a rising star who beat Adele on iTunes.

The 20-year-old, from Bellshill in Glasgow, successfully auditioned for Simon, Nicole and Louis on Saturday night's episode but fans took to Twitter after recognising him following his performance at Capital's Summertime Ball.

The young singer won a competition to perform at the music event where he sang 'Stitches' in front of 80,000 screaming fans.

He also beat Grammy-award winning singer Adele on iTunes with his own charity single You're Free in 2013.

The song charted at Number 39 on the chart and he raised £1600 for charity from the track and donated it to Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

Ryan went on to join boy band Exposure, who he toured the UK twice with.

He already boasts over 16,000 fans on Instagram who follow his musical updates.

The singer also has a up-and-coming gig in Glasgow on September 30 with tickets selling from £10.

An X Factor spokesman said: "Ryan won a competition to sing at the Capital Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium but he is not a signed artist and has never had a record deal.

"Anyone can apply for The X Factor whether they are professional or amateur, irrespective of their past experience and all contestants are auditioned on merit."
