An award winning conductor takes to the stage next month with 400 singers and musicians - who will meet for the first time that day.

Andrew Nunn, who is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, wants to spread love of classical music across the city.

He conducted the city-based female choir which won the BBC Choir of the Year competition in 2012 and presently conducts a number of choirs across Glasgow.

One of them is the 130 strong Bearsden choir which will take part in the musical event in the City Halls on October 30.

They will be joined by around 250 secondary pupils from 11 schools across the city and the 30 strong orchestra from the Royal Conservatoire who are studying for a music degree.

Each school will rehearse independently and the orchestra and singers will meet for the first time on the day of the performance.

However Andrew is not phased by the challenge he will face when he is confronted with around 400 people who have never met each other, far less performed together

He said: "If you are going to go for it, then go for it big.

"I started this as school children don't get the chance to sing large scale choral works with an orchestra.

"We want children to experience that because once they do, singers in school choirs really like it but the problem is the cost of putting on these large scale events.

"We have found funding so it is not going to cost the schools anything to be involved.

"We are trying to take away the barriers which might prevent schools from taking part and are providing schools with free tickets to the concert for families.

"Some parents might not be able to spend the money to go to a classical concert but we want to try and increase the appreciation of classical music across the city.

"The choirs and orchestra will not meet until the day of the performance.

"The Bearsden choir will sing the whole performance and the schools choirs will sing three or four movements they have rehearsed separately in their schools."

He added: "You have got to trust this is going to work and that the schools can do the job. You delegate and have to have trust.

"This kind of event is something which should have happened already and I am really excited to see the result and that we can pull together.

"They will be performing the Nelson Mass by Haydn which is a well known piece for a large choral society and is lovely and invigorating."
