Tennis fans have praised team GB and thanked Andy and Jamie Murray for showing their love of playing in Scotland.

Taking to Twitter after the team lost the Davis Cup semi-final in the Emirates yesterday afternoon, posters were quick to compliment the British team.

Paisley MP Gavin Newlands said: “Love that the Murrays wear their heart on their sleeve and really love playing in Scotland. @JudyMurray must be a proud proud mum!”

His Tweet was retweeted by Judy, who earlier posted a picture of Andy after his win over Guido Pella with a simple “Braveheart” caption.
Susan Smith posted: “You all gave the best fight to try and make the magic happen. A magical year of tennis.”

And Mandy Maclean wrote: “Such a shame Team GB. You did us all proud. You are amazing.”

Adam Stubbings said Team GB had made a “stellar effort.”

He added: “That we were even in a position to try and defend the Davis Cup it is huge in itself”.

Andy Murray has previously praised the Emirates, saying it has a “special atmosphere”.

He called for last year’s semi-final against Australia to be held at the 8000-capacity venue.

He said: “It’s always special to play in front of a home crowd. We had a unique atmosphere in Glasgow, the crowd was unbelievable.

“The crowd sort of understand exactly what it’s all about – and they know they can really get into it. They made loads of noise from the first point to the last.”

Business leaders have estimated the Davis Cup could bring a £20million boost to the city.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said last year: “Our hospitality and leisure sector should be in for a bonanza of anything up £20m. Extra seating at the Emirates Arena will mean [crowds of] over 8000 at each session over the three days of the match, with many of these visitors from outside the city.”
