Young Glasgow workers are up for top training awards for apprentices.

The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards recognise trainees across a wide range of sectors.

Collette Cassidy, 18, a nursery worker from Knightswood is a finalist in the level 2 Apprentice of the Year for her work at Lullaby Lane nursery in Bearsden.

Daisy Smith, 18, a digital media apprentice with STV is in line for the level 3 award for work on the firm’s website and on social media.

BAE Systems Naval Ships worker Fraser Clark is a finalist in the Apprentice of the Year Level 3 category.

Fraser, 24, from Balloch, works at the Glasgow shipyards after he completed his engineering technician apprenticeship in August and is now a detail designer.

Marta Zalewska from Cleveden Secondary and Monisha Sandhu from Bishopbriggs Academy are contenders in the Foundation Apprentice of the Year category.

Both started financial services Foundation Apprenticeship training which helps young people gain real-world work experience and access vocational training while they are still at school.

The awards also recognise employers with several city firms up for recognition, including City building, based at Queenslie and WGM Engineering in Ibrox.

The Awards will take place Thursday 3 November at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
