Dozens of teddies have been gifted to Glasgow's new children's hospital to help reduce the trauma faced by young patients.

Staff at Glasgow's new children's hospital use the toys to teach young patients about their own conditions and youngsters also carry out "surgery" on the teddies.

Experts say that through structured play with the teddies, children can better understand what they will experience themselves.

The Teddy Hospital project, run by Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, has been proven to help reduce any worry and anxiety young patients face during hospital visits.

It has been given a boost with a donation of 30 teddies from Build a Bear in Buchanan Galleries.

The charity said the donation will ensure the hospital can continue to provide a bear for each child.

Barry Wilson, manager of Build a Bear said: “We are delighted to have been able to help out Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity by donating some of our bears.

"After hearing about the great work the play team at the Teddy Hospital do, we were inspired to get involved in any way we could.

"We hope the children who visit the hospital enjoy playing with the bears and that our donation will help make their treatment a little easier.”

Kirsten Sinclair, Director of Fundraising at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity said “The generosity Build a Bear have shown is wonderful and we couldn’t be happier with our 30 new additions to the Teddy Hospital.
