Talented twins train to be music teachers after receiving identical offers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Twins Hannah and Morgan Charleston from Larkhall may not be identical to look at but their lives are a mirror image when it comes to their studies and their friends.

The two 17-year-old violinists have just taken up their places at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to study to become music teachers alongside some of the finest young musicians in the country. The duo have even had to invest in separate violin cases for the first time in the musical lives.

“We’ve been playing the violin for 11 years and we have always had a double violin case for both instruments,” said Hannah. “But we thought we should buy separate cases now that we are at the Conservatoire.”

Morgan, who is three minutes older than her twin, added: ”We have the same friends and we have always done things together, we even have the same timetable and classes at RCS. I am a bit more competitive than Hannah but we don’t fall out over it. If one of us does better in something one week, then the other usually does better the next time.”

The two former Larkhall Academy pupils were delighted when they were offered places at Scotland’s national conservatoire.

“We had attended summer schools at RCS and they were a great experience,” explained Hannah. “After being part of it all at the summer schools, we both individually knew that RCS was where we wanted to be so we applied. I didn’t want to go anywhere else and the whole family was delighted when we both got offered places at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, especially our mum and dad, they’re really proud.”

Both Hannah and Morgan will begin their 4-year degree programme in earnest next week when classes and concerts begin.
