ONE of Glasgow’s most famous cafes is set to reopen today.

The Willow Tearooms had to relocate as their former premises on Sauchiehall Street is being refurbished over the next two years.

The new venue inside Watt Brothers department store has seen a whole floor of the shop restored and transformed ahead of the reopening.

Many of the third floor’s original features have been restored back to their former glory, including the original wooden floors, ceiling design and cornicing.

Most noticeably, two full walls of windows have been opened up, flooding the tea rooms with light and creating a spectacular view into the street below.

Anne Mulhern started the Willow Tea Rooms in 1983 to continue the legacy of Miss Kate Cranston, who set up a number of successful tearooms in the city in the 19th century.

Anne said: “We are really excited to be finally opening, having been working on this since May.

“It’s wonderful to see all these original features brought back to life for people to see."
