A TEENAGER has an unusual request for his 16th birthday - to see his Lego creation become reality.

Luke Ball's design for a Lego version of a CalMac ferry has gained thousands of supporters but he has just three days to get 1,550 people more to sign up to keep his dream alive.

Luke, from Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, turns 16 on Wednesday and said his best present would be the extra votes needed to hit 5,000 supporters, meaning Lego bosses would continue to consider his design of the MV Loch Shira for production.

He said: "I am just keeping my fingers crossed that I can reach the 5,000 votes.

"With only a few days to go, I hope that enough people will support it to keep the project going.

"I'd absolutely love it to be considered for production and it would make a great birthday present if I could get another six-month extension to the project - I think it would make a great Lego model and I'd be really pleased."

The real-life ship sails the Largs to Isle of Cumbrae route and his design was inspired by family journeys on the vessel.
