Former pupils from as far afield as Australia, Switzerland and America are going back to school this week at King’s Park Secondary’s reunion party.

More than 300 people, including some who attended the school in the 1960s, are meeting up at the celebration in Hampden Park.

The event has been organised by former pupil Lynda Kyle, who explained: “We have had a Facebook page for former pupils and staff for ages, which is extremely popular with more than 1500 members. There has often been talk of holding a reunion but we didn’t know what the response would be.

“When we put a call out to see if anyone would be interested, we were gobsmacked when 450 people said yes.”

Lynda laughed: “We have had such a good response we even had to change venue to find somewhere to accommodate us all. We’re now holding it at Hampden Park on Saturday.”

People are travelling from all over the world to attend the event, including celebrity former pupil Karen Logan, who sang in 80s pop bands Dollar and Buck’s Fizz, and former school secretary Jac Prosser, who lives in France.

“Jac was a pupil as well as secretary and she is making more than 300 cupcakes for everyone attending,” said Lynda.

“There will be people there who went to King’s Park in the 1960s, right up to those who started in the 90s – a real mix of people.”

Other celebrity former pupils include Jane McCarry, of Still Game fame, and members of Primal Scream. Some of the proceeds from the night will be donated to the Beatson and Lynda, who has battled cancer in the past, hopes to raise at least £2000 for the cancer charity.

“Cancer has touched nearly everyone in some way or another so fingers crossed we can raise a lot of money,” she explained.

“We’re all really looking forward to it, it will be an amazing night.”
