THE way the police responded to reports of concern about a man's welfare in Glasgow is being investigated.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has been instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to carry out an investigation following the death of the 31-year-old man.

He was found seriously ill in Glasgow on August 24 and the PIRC say their probe will focus on the initial police response.

A spokesman for the PIRC said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) to undertake an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 31-year-old man who was found seriously ill in Glasgow on August 24.

“The man was treated at the scene but later died on the way to hospital.

“The investigation will focus on the initial police response after a report of concern was made about the man’s welfare.

“A report on the Commissioner’s findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course.”
