THE discovery of a man's body in Airdrie town centre is being treated as suspicious..

Cops in Lanarkshire have launched a probe after the 40-year-old was found on Clark Street at around 10.25am yesterday.

Police officers were carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area today in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Businesses on Airdrie's main shopping area were also asked for CCTV.

The man has not been identified and a post mortem is due to take place. 

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of his death, which at this time police are treating as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Clark Street area from yesterday afternoon [Wednesday] until 10.30am this morning [Thursday], when the deceased was found.

"If you saw anything or anyone acting suspiciously or have information that will assist police with their enquiries, then please call Coatbridge Police office via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be given in confidence."
