Calvin Harris has made a return to the X Factor despite trying to “make a mockery” of the show seven years ago.
The Scottish chart-topping DJ appeared alongside former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger as her guest critic in the south of France at the judges’ houses stage of the programme.
In 2009 Taylor Swift’s former boyfriend, who was due to perform on the show with Rihanna, ran onto the stage with a pineapple on his head during then-contestants Jedward’s performance.
The stunt saw him apparently escorted and ejected from the studios.

At the time of the stunt gone wrong, Calvin said: “I was just inspired to make a mockery of the show because it is a music competition, it is a joke and I think it should be treated as such.
“So when people were saying ‘John and Edward, maybe they deserve to stay in this week’, I was like ‘are you watching what I’m watching?’”
The 32-year-old was said to have made an enemy of X Factor supremo Simon Cowell by trying to play the practical joke.
He was understood to have been slapped with a lifetime ban by the music mogul but it is believed Calvin was invited back to this year’s production thanks to his chart success.
Sunday night’s episode made no reference to his former stunt – but instead the Summer singer cheekily tweeted a pineapple emoji during the show.

In response the spiky-haired twins John and Edward, who were at the receiving end of his stunt, replied to his tweet.
Hey @CalvinHarris You are Fantastic 🍍
