ICE HOCKEY stars The Braehead Clan have announced the veterans’ charity Erskine as one of their official nominated charities for this season.
The club, who are based at Braehead Arena, previously said they would also support the Glasgow’s Children Hospital Charity.
The Clan will celebrate the new partnership during tonight’s home game against Sheffield Steelers.
The squad will wear a specially designed purple camouflage jersey, which will be auctioned off following the game with proceeds going to Erskine.
Actor Greg McHugh will have the honour of dropping the puck.
The star, who is know for is role in Gary: Tank Commander, will be performing the puck drop before the game starts at 7.30pm.
Gareth Chalmers, Clan Hockey and Operations Director, said: “When selecting our charities we felt it would be very fitting to support Erskine taking into consideration it’s their centenary year.
“They provide superb care for veterans and their families, so it was a very easy decision to make the decision to show our support.”
David McFadden, community fundraiser - West for Erskine, added: “Our veterans have already enjoyed a fantastic visit from some of the players – honing their hockey skills enough that they might have a chance on the roster!
“The veterans are looking forward to the game on Friday night and can’t wait to cheer on the Purple Army. With the support of the Clan our residents will continue to receive the highest level of care and attention; it’s with supporters like you we are able to continue looking after our country’s brave veterans.”
Erskine provides veterans with unrivalled nursing, respite, palliative and dementia care within four care homes in Scotland.
The charity now also cares for spouses of ex-servicemen, and houses younger veterans and their families in cottages on the Erskine Estate in Bishopton.
