Three men have been sentenced to almost nine years in prison for the sale and supply of drugs in Edinburgh.

Matthew Watt, 21, Matthew Todd, 26, and Shuaib Dar, 23, all pleaded guilty and were sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Watt received a prison sentence of four years while Todd received 40 months and Dar 18 months.

In October, officers acting on intelligence established that Watt and Todd met with Dar at Abington services in South Lanarkshire.

Subsequent inquiries led to the recovery of Class A controlled drugs with a potential street value in excess of £170,000.

A strong case was built against the three men which led to their conviction, police said.

Detective Inspector David Wright added: "This intelligence-led operation focused on the supply of significant quantities of Class A controlled drugs from England to Scotland.

"The sale and use of illegal substances is a scourge on our community and is a top priority for Police Scotland.

"As a force we are committed to identifying and removing those responsible for the distribution of drugs from our communities and confidential information from the public plays a key part in this.

"I would encourage anyone to report criminal activity in their area by contacting police on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111".
