TWO children are seriously ill in hospital after a two car crash between Kilbirnie and Dalry.

The two, an eight-year-old girl and four-year-old boy, were passengers in a Corsa, driven by a 28-year-old woman, which collided with a black Chevrolet this afternoon.

They have been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital following the crash, at 2.30pm on the B780.

The woman is said to be in a stable condition.

A 66-year-old woman, who was driving the Chevrolet, and a 32-year-old male passenger were taken to Crosshouse hospital with minor injuries.

The B780 has been closed to allow for police enquiries and local diversions remain in place.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley of the Trunk Roads Policing Unit, Irvine is appealing for any information, or anyone who saw the cars, to call 101.
