THE family of a Ruchill man whose body was recovered from the River Kelvin have hit out at how Police Scotland investigated his death.

Tragic angler Craig Allison was found dead at around 8.45am on Sunday, April 24 by a member of the public at an area known as the ‘Slushie’ at the River Kelvin in Maryhill.

He was just 22-years-old and his family, including mum Carol, have been left baffled by the death which was treated by police as unexplained.

Police said Craig had gone fishing on the Saturday afternoon with friends before he passed.

But now a close friend has said the family are not happy with how the probe into his death was handled.

The friend said: “He wasn’t in the water he was on the banks, still with all the fishing equipment that he had, as his mum was told this by police.

“From the very start the way police treated Craig’s family wasn’t right.”

The friend, who does not want to be named, added: “His mum was told there was an on going investigation and they would be keeping Craig’s body until they found out what happened to him.

“Weeks had past and we were told Craig had a broken rib and scratches on him but nothing to show how he died.”

It is understood that multiple tests were carried out on Craig over three months but there was still no answers over how he died.

It was even suggested he had a fall until the family were given back Craig’s body for his funeral with a death certificate which still stated, “unexplained”.

His devastated mum Carol has been in turmoil ever since the death and wants answers.

The friend said: “Craig’s mum was led to believe from the very beginning Craig wasn’t in the water, and he had mud and water only to his ankles but the police drop off the clothes Craig had on that night last week with a jacket that never belonged to him.

“His clothes were covered in mud from head to toe right up to the collar on his t-shirt.

“When I pulled them out the bag they felt like they had been soaked and dried in.

“His mum was never informed about him being in this state. The clothes speak for themselves look at the marks all over them.”

Carol contacted Maryhill Police Office to be told the family liaison officer was on holiday and she explained to CID that her son’s jacket was missing.

Officers arrived at the family home to collect the jacket but they could give no more answers.

In a further blow to the family, they were also told that Craig had a lump in the back of his head by police after the funeral.

The friend said: “Just because Police Scotland don’t care what happened to you Craig, it doesn’t mean we don’t”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “ A complaint has been received and the matter is being looked into.”
