The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after an underweight dog, who has recently given birth, was found straying in Coatbridge.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted by police on Thursday (13 October) after the female Canary Mastiff was found straying by a member of the public at the Shawhead Flyover.

The dog was taken to the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Lanarkshire, where a microchip scan revealed her name to be Bonnie.

Animal Rescue Officer Emma Sergeant said, “Bonnie was handed into the police station in Coatbridge and we were contacted as there were concerns for her welfare.

“Bonnie was in a very poor condition and was underweight. It was obvious she had also recently had pups as her teats were full of milk and were very swollen.

“We think she has had more than one litter of pups in the past and we are concerned for her pups and where they are now.

“This poor girl is just over a year old and although she is microchipped, the details are out of date.

“We are appealing to anyone who recognises Bonnie or know who she may have belonged to, to contact us on 03000 999 999.”
