A DIVERSE line-up of talented students and staff will provide the soundtrack to a celebration launch of Glasgow’s new super college.

Hundreds of guests from the worlds of education and politics will gather on Thursday evening to celebrate City of Glasgow College’s City Campus.

And the Gala Evening will be soundtracked by winners of a City’s Got Talent competition.

Dozens of acts competed for the chance to play at the college’s new Cathedral Street building.

A former X Factor contestant and a graduate who has just launched his debut EP are among the acts set to entertain a VIP audience in the state-of-the-art building on Thursday night.

Singer Daryl Sperry, from Tollcross, successfully made it through auditions. He said: “I was having an EP launch last month and came into the college to about about volunteers to help me out.

“Next thing I knew I was auditioning for and then playing at the launch night.

“The new building is miraculous - playing there is going to be dynamite.”

Those set to take part also include student Caroline Clark, who formed one half of the G&S act in The X Factor 2010.

The eleven acts to be showcased on the night were selected by a panel including college Principal and Chief Executive Paul Little after auditions in a staff and student initiative called City’s Got Talent.

David Cullen, a curriculum head in the college’s English for Speakers of Other Languages department, who plays guitar and sings at open mic nights in his hometown of Lanark, is among those also to play a part in the celebration.

David, who draws inspiration from Scottish traditional folk and American country music, said: “City’s Got Talent has allowed us to be a part of this significant occasion in the history of City of Glasgow College.

“It’s going to be nerve-wracking performing solo in front of a large audience but it should be exciting.”

The ten-storey campus on Cathedral Street forms part of a £228m twin-site supercampus with the award-winning Riverside maritime campus on the banks of the River Clyde.
