A GLASGOW bar legend is set to cause a stir at the Europe finals of the Hard Rock Cafe’s mixology competition.

Matthew Lyle will be competing in the The Global BARocker Championship where he will be joined by competitors from across the country.

Originally from Australia, the barman has been working at the Buchanan Street franchise for a year, perfecting his cocktail making skills.

Matt said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I’m very confident in the work. I’ve done as much as I can and more.

“I believe in the work and training. I don’t get nervous – the worst thing that could happen is that I get laughed at.

“I’ve been spending the last four weeks coming up with my routines and putting everything together.

“When I practise, I’ll accumulate a lot of moves and then I piece everything together. It’s kind of like throwing paint at a wall and moving it to the way you want it.

“I’m finally in a position that I can do everything I want to do. With any luck I’ll go all the way with Panama but it’s a competition and I’m in it to win it.”

“My colleagues have supported me the whole way through and have allowed me to keep practicing and try new things.

“The standard of the competition among my fellow colleagues and competitors was extremely high and I feel completely honoured and humbled to have made it through to the Regional final.

“I only hope that I can make it through to the global final in Panama – that really would be a dream come true.”

STV Glasgow’s Laura Boyd and Gerry Cassidy will be judging on the night at the Buchanan Street bar before deciding which mixologist will move on to the world finals in Panama City in January.

Entry to the event is free to the public and there will be live entertainment on the night.
