A BABY girl clung to her dad’s chest after the pair fell from a block of flats in Govanhill. 

The two-year-old is now in a stable condition after the fall which happened on Calder Street at around 12.35pm yesterday. 

It is understood the pair fell into the back court of the building which is opposite Govanhill Health Centre prompting a response from emergency services.

One local, who did to want to be named, said her friend witnessed the tragedy. 

She said the man is “shattered” after hearing a thud before seeing the tot lying on her 38-year-old dad’s chest. She added: “The woman in the flat was apparently locked in the house and had been screaming prior for someone to let her out. 

Glasgow Times:

“When they fell, he took the keys with him and apparently she couldn’t even get down until the paramedics arrived.” 

The dad’s condition is described as serious. 

One shocked neighbour said the Scottish couple were friendly before adding that the wee girl is “gorgeous”.

Several police cars swooped into the street, which is on a busy bus route, shortly after the incident. 

Forensic officers could be seen taking prints and evidence from the window ledge while CID carried out their investigations interviewing witnesses. 

A police officer stood guard at the door of the flat which is at the top of the close.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 12:35pm on Monday, police were called to a report of a 38-year-old man and a two-year-old girl having fallen from the window of a flat in Calder Street, Glasgow.“They have been taken to hospital where they are being treated for injuries. “Hospital staff describe his condition as serious and the girl’s condition is described as stable. 

“Police inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
