A BRAVE cancer patients has joined her colleagues from bars across Scotland to raise money for charity.

Nicola Strawbridge, who is manager of the Overlee bar in Clarkston, was diagnosed with the condition in May and is undergoing chemotherapy.

But she met up with around 60 staff from Bellhaven bars across Glasgow and beyond for a 12 mile Tartan Trek which is expected to take around four hours.

It left Armstrongs in Battlefield, travelling through the South Side to the West End before finishing at the Rhoderick Dhu in Waterloo Street 12 miles later.

The pub staff had hoped to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through a range of fundraising efforts but have already raised £12,500.

And Nicola, 38, said she is hopeful the total will hit £15,000 by the end of the colourful walk through the city.

The plucky pub boss planned to start the walk with her workmates but was not convinced she would be able to complete the gruelling charity challenge.

She said: "I am going to chemotherapy and am tired but it is all part of the process.

"I would feel terrible if I couldn't do the whole walk but we will see. I hope to go at least part of the way.

"Macmillan were very involved with my dad's care when he was sick so it feels good to be doing something for them.

"Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains and donating in all the other ways you can, Macmillan wouldn't exist."

Nicola has been manager of the Overlee for the past two years but has worked for Bellhaven for more than a decade.
