Police are hunting two men after what is believed to have been a gunpoint robbery in Renfrew.

Yesterday, at around 7.45am, the pair forced a 38-year-old man into his home in Merlinford Avenue.

They assaulted him and threatened his 67-year-old mother before making off with a number of items.

Described as white, between 5ft 8 and 5ft 11, both wore a scarf over their face and a dark jacket, and it is believed they were in possession of firearms.

Police suspect the attack was targeted, and are appealing for information.

Detective Inspector Suzie Chow, Paisley CID, said: “Although we are still trying to establish a motive for the robbery, at this time we believe that the man involved was the target and this was not a random attack.

“Thankfully, no firearm was discharged and no one was injured, however, it was a very frightening experience for them both to go through.

“This time of the morning is when people leave for work, and, although we have no report of a car being involved, it’s possible both men had been hanging about the area waiting for the man to leave his house.
