Craig, who finished 11th in the World Solo Piping Championships last week, went to the Horse Shoe Bar in the city centre - and was given a knock back by the bouncer who said his kilt was against the dress code.

Craig explained: “The gentleman at the front door told us it was against company policy, we thought they were kidding.

“We turned up at the front door and we were refused entry. He made us look like idiots

“We were quite annoyed but we kept our cool. We didn’t lose out temper or anything like that.”

He added: “It was horrible, it was the first time I have ever been refused entry sober.

“I am just back from Melbourne and Sydney, we were out there playing pipes in the Australian championships.

“We went out three nights wearing our kilts and we had a great night everywhere we went.

“I have done the same in pubs all over the world and this is the first time I have ever had any problems wearing a kilt in a pub.

“What gets me the most is that it was Hallowe’en and they are claiming there was a dress code.”

Craig isn’t the only customer of the Horse Shoe Bar to have experienced the same problem.

Gary Kelly, of Glasgow, said he was also refused entry back in July.

He said: “Back then, I took it in the chin and walked away but then I saw it happened to Craig.

“Anytime I go into the city centre, I do have doubt of whether I will get into a pub because I have a kilt on.

“I felt disgusted when I wasn’t allowed entry.”

Craig did explain that he has received an apology from the Horse Shoe Bar following the incident.

The pub said on their official Facebook, “Contrary to what you might have seen or heard, we would like to reiterate that kilts are and always will be welcome in the pub.We are saddened this misunderstanding has occurred. All we ask is that you keep the nudity to a bare minimum and it is winter after all.”

Craig said: “We have spoken to the owners via e-mail and they have told us it is not company policy.

“The security staff don’t work for the bar, they are privately owned company called SGL.

“The Horse Shoe Bar have been absolutely great and they have apologised profusely.”
