The best of film and television is to be celebrated at the Scottish Baftas tonight with Peter Capaldi, Ashley Jensen and Greg McHugh among those nominated for their performances.

TV drama Shetland leads the way with four nominations, followed closely by historical fiction drama Outlander, which is nominated in three categories.

Doctor Who actor Capaldi is up against Shetland star Douglas Henshall and Outlander's Sam Heughan for best TV actor, while Peter Mullan, Brian Cox and Jack Lowden are competing in the film category.

Gary: Tank Commander's election special, which saw McHugh interview Scotland's political party leaders, is nominated for a factual entertainment prize, while Mrs Brown's Boys: Christmas Special 2015, Scot Squad and Two Doors Down are in the running for best comedy/entertainment programme.

Actress Jensen is nominated for her role in Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe and will be up against Caitriona Balfe for Outlander and Hollyoaks' Annie Wallace.

Other stars expected to attend the annual ceremony at Glasgow's Radisson Blu hotel include Hollywood actor James McAvoy, writer Steven Moffat and Vicky McClure.

Rebecca O'Brien and Paul Laverty are to collect the Outstanding Contribution to Film Award for their production company Sixteen Films, while make-up artist Christine Cant is to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Craft Award.
