WITH the Christmas season fast approaching, there's plenty going on in Scotland's biggest city to look forward to. 

As the festive programme of events claims, Glasgow Loves Christmas and the city has a bursting seasonal calendar to prove it. 

From pantomimes and Christmas markets, to carolling and classic movies enjoyed with a cup of mulled wine, there’s something for everyone in our Dear Green Place. 

Glasgow’s also a haven for those seeking the perfect gift for a loved one. Widely acknowledged as the best shopping destination in the UK outside of London, the city has everything from every major high street store and high end designers, to independent boutiques and unique stores.

It's A Wonderful Life at the GFT 

One of the greatest ever films is, as ever, on hand to make sure you have a great Christmas. 

Come and see George Bailey as he discovers the truth that no man is a failure who has friends. 

Glasgow's independent cinema also has other festive favourites on hand such as Gremlins, Die Hard, Elf and The Muppet Christmas Carol. 

It's A Wonderful Life runs from Friday, December 9 to Saturday, December 24. 

Disney on Ice presents Frozen

Join your favourite Frozen characters Elsa, Anna and Olaf in their natural milieu of the ice rink on a journey to discover true love conquers all. 

A fabulous spectacle for all the family, marvel at the story performed beautifully on ice and sing-along to film favourites including the ever-popular Let it Go.

The show runs from Thursday, November 24 to Sunday, November 27 at the Hydro. Tickets cost £20.45 to £52.20

Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair

Head along to the Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair in the SECC this festive season and pick up some unique gifts to delight your loved ones. 

With an array of items on sale, ranging from stocking fillers to luxury and craft products by independent retailers, including inspirational decorations to bring the magic of Christmas into your home.

It runs from this Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 20, tickets cost £7.50 to £55.

Elfie’s Magical Adventure

It just wouldn't be Christmas without a pantomime (oh no it wouldn't!) and this year's original effort from the Pavilion is Elfie’s Magical Adventure. 

Promising slapstick fun for the whole family, it stars Liam Dolan as Elfie the Magical Elf, Nicola Park as Fairy Snowflake, Stephen Purdon as Kev, Grado as The Growler and Craig Glover as The “Mammy”.

Be sure to bring a sense of festive magic and warm vocal chords for a Christmas singalong.

It runs from Thursday, November 24 to Sunday, January 15. Tickets cost £21.50 to £23.50.

Urban Market at Drygate

Discover Glasgow’s Urban Market every first and third Sunday of December. The first Sunday of the month will host a regular market and the third will host a market with a special theme.

Enjoy a leisurely browse around the market before easing into Sunday afternoon at Drygate. Sample some delicious craft beer and food whilst you’re there.

The market runs Sunday, December 4 and Sunday, December 18 from 12pm to 5pm. Admission is free.

Four Seasons by Candlelight

The strings are primed, the trumpet polished – and the electricity has been cut for a truly authentic 18th Century experience.

Listen to a programme including Handel, Bach and Mozart, topped off by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in a candle-lit setting while the Mozart Festival Orchestra plays on in full 18th Century costume.

This Raymond Gubbay event runs Sunday, November 27 at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. Tickets cost £19.50 to £32.50.

The Night after Christmas

Something for the younger ones next, with the Tron Theatre welcoming all three to six year olds and their families to a fun-filled Christmas show. - The Night After Christmas. 

Following the story of two of Santa’s elves cooking up a feast for a very tired Rudolph and Santa, ‘The Night after Christmas’ promises an unforgettable family day out.

The show runs from Tuesday, November 29 to Saturday, December 31. Tickets cost £6 to £8.

Santa Dash

Help raise money for charity in the most natural way, by dressing up as Santa and pounding the streets of Glasgow alongside thousands of Chris Kringle clones. 

Sign up to receive a Santa suit, and a coveted 'Santa's little helper' medal come the finish line. 

The Santa Dash takes place on Sunday, December 11 from 9.30am, kicking off from George Square.

Irn-Bru Carnival

Taking place at the SECC, the Irn-Bru Carnival provides fun for all the family this winter. 

From waltzers and dodgems, to voodoo dancers and matterhorns, this event guarantees endless fun for all concerned. 

Things kick off Wednesday, December 21 and run until Sunday, January 15. Tickets cost £8 to £50. 

Hogmanay Hootenanny

Scotland is world famous for its Hogmanay celebrations, so where else would you rather be than in Glasgow bringing in the New Year at The National Piping Centre?

Tickets include: welcome reception with canapes and a ‘wee’ dram, banquet meal and a spectacular evening of Scottish ceilidh.

 The Hootenanny is on (surprise surprise) Saturday, December 31 from 6.30pm. Tickets cost £80.

The RSNO Christmas Concert 

A quintessential Christmas staple, see the magical journey of The Snowman through the winter sky as never before with the RSNO. 

This festive classic will be displayed on large screen, accompanied by the RSNO and narrated by a special star guest. 

This Christmas party for the whole family is filled with seasonal favourites, carols old and new – and, of course, a chance for everyone to sing along.

The concert is at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday, December 17. Tickets cost £17 to £35.

Hamleys Meet Father Christmas at St Enoch Centre 

This interactive event sees children enjoy a magical fun-filled experience with Santa.

With snacks, entertainment, Christmas list writing, singing and dancing and much, much more, it is sure to be an occasion cherished by little ones.

Children can enjoy this magical experience surrounded by the world’s finest toys from 26th November right up until Christmas Eve.

The event lasts an hour and costs £25 per child.

The iconic toy shop will also be making it snow with the help of Frozen’s Olaf and Hamleys’ very own magical elves.

Olaf will be in centre making it snow twice daily throughout December.
