THE UK Government should intervene and force Toblerone to scrap its change to make the bars smaller, according to a MSP.
Toblerone downsizing their famous chocolate bars is “emblematic of the devastating consequences Brexit could bring” he said.
Colin Beattie, SNP MSP for Midlothian, has lodged a motion at Holyrood bemoaning the resizing of the bar to widen the gaps between the chocolate triangles and reduce the weight.
Mr Beattie even called on the UK Government to intervene and force a U turn.
His motion urged MSPs to be concerned at the decision to widen the gaps and to offer condolences to those “mourning “the change.
He added: “This is emblematic of the devastating consequences that Brexit could bring” and called on the UK government to “take speedy action to rectify the change”.
However he ended by wishing the company Modelez International the best possible success with the lighter bar.
The motion was backed by SNP colleagues Gail Ross, Angus MacDonald, Richard Lyle.
Mr Beattie’s motion was mocked by opposition MSP
Tory MSP Murdo Fraser said: "It appears that the SNP's quest to find grievance in all things has now entered the confectionary stall. What a joke."However, given the grief Mr Beattie is suffering over the scaling down of Toblerone, the Scottish Conservatives pledge today to buy him some good Scots chocolate, like a pack of Tunnock's tea cakes which - regardless of Brexit - remain as delicious and substantial as always.”
