NIGEL FARAGE has been lauded by Donald Trump as an obvious choice to act as the UK's ambassador to America.
But despite the endorsement of a President-elect who since winning the election has declared war on a Broadway show and Saturday Night Live, the idea of the Ukip politician representing Great Britain has proven unpopular this side of the Atlantic.
While Downing Street has stated there is "no vacancy" and praised the post's incumbent, Sir Kim Darroch, the Twittersphere was quick to suggest others more qualified for the diplomatic role.
Under the hashtag #BetterAmbassadorsThanFarage, everything from camera-friendly canines and Mr Blobby, to elderly fruit and the Prime Minister's cat were put forward as having more merit than the pint-loving politician.
We've gathered a few of our favourites here.
