MURDER cops revisited the spot where a Maryhill man was gunned down in a bid to find clues which could lead to his killer.

The stop and speak operation was held last night - exactly a week after Euan Johnstone was shot as he sat in his car at traffic lights on Shields Road near to its junction with Scotland Street.

Known as EJ, the 26-year-old was within a black Audi RS4 at around 11.40pm when his killer drove up beside him in a dark-coloured Audi Q5 and delivered the fatal blow.

The gunmen then sped off in his car and was last seen turning right into Scotland Street, heading for the M8 motorway towards the Kingston Bridge.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to save Euan but he later died in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police believe the car used in the shooting was set on fire in Bracken Street in North Glasgow’s Parkhouse area a short time later.

It is, however, still undergoing detailed forensic examination.

During last night’s operation, detectives and uniformed officers spoke to motorists and pedestrians in the area where the shooting took place.

They also visited the north of the city where the car was set on fire in an effort to gather more information that may assist their investigation.

Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr, who is the senior investigating officer, said: “We are now one week into this inquiry, and this operation is about speaking to pedestrians and motorists who perhaps use these routes on a regular basis around this particular time. Hopefully we can jog their memories into remembering something they may have seen or heard which could assist our investigation.

“This was a targeted attack, however, it was undoubtedly a very shocking incident and we are continuing significant enquiries to trace who is responsible.

“There are extra uniform patrols are in the area to provide public reassurance, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to officers.”

The Evening Time reported yesterday that tributes have been placed at the spot where the young father was killed.
