Police have praised the "dignity and bravery" of the family of a missing French student as they continue the search for him.

Antoine Maury, 21, was last seen at about 10pm on Monday October 24 when he left the company of his friends at Edinburgh College's Milton Road East campus.

A man matching his description was later seen between 10.45pm and 11pm near to the Duddingston Village area of Holyrood Park, heading into the park.

The man was believed to be topless and this is believed to be the last known sighting of Mr Maury.

Specialist searches involving divers, mountain rescue teams and a dog unit have been concentrated in the Holyrood Park and Duddingston Village area, but police say they are still "looking for that key piece of information".

Glasgow Times:

Mr Maury's mother Laura has described life without her son as "unbearable".

The 21-year-old is white, with a medium build and green eyes. He is about 6ft with short brown hair and a beard. He has a tattoo of a bleeding hand on his forearm.

At the last confirmed sighting, Mr Maury was wearing a brown/green bomber jacket with dark chinos and a white beanie hat. He is also believed to have been wearing black and white Vans trainers.

Mr Maury was born and raised in Paris but moved to St Andrews to study when he was 16.

Chief Inspector Kevin McLean said: "Our search for Antoine is ongoing and we are still activity looking to trace him.

"I would like to pay tribute to Antoine's family and the dignity and bravery they have shown throughout this time. I would also like to thank the public and media for their assistance throughout this investigation, their support has been crucial.

"Unfortunately we are still looking for that key piece of information that will lead to us finding Antoine and give us the answers the Maury family are desperately seeking.

"I would again ask anyone who remembers seeing Antoine on Monday October 24 or recognises his description to come forward. That piece of information may be vital and may be what leads us to tracing Antoine."

More than 100 volunteers have joined searches for Mr Maury since his disappearance but no trace has been found.

His mother told the Edinburgh Evening News: "Police are still searching in Holyrood Park because this is where Antoine was last seen.

"But what if he got in a car and somebody brought him somewhere outside Scotland? Every day that goes by and he is not found is a good day. If he is found in the park it means that he is dead.

"I want to think that he is alive and we will recover him alive."

She added: "We try to stay positive and chase away any thought that could put us away from thinking that Antoine is alive. We need to keep believing that Antoine is alive somewhere.

"Otherwise life would just be unbearable."
