SIX Glasgow groups have scooped more than £1million of Big Lottery Fund grants.

The cash has gone to organisations which help people going through difficult times.

Big Lottery Fund Scotland chairwoman Maureen McGinn said: "We are awarding over £3.9m to 26 inspiring organisations providing great support to people across Scotland facing challenging circumstances.

"These projects will reach people at a time when they need it the most, giving them the confidence, advice and skills to look towards a more positive future."

Home-Start Glasgow North has been awarded £440,000 to deliver practical and emotional support to families.

They will be able to benefit from funded activities if they have at least one child under five-years-old who is experiencing stress and difficulties in their lives.

Partick Thistle Charitable Trust will use the cash to deliver football and physical activity sessions to people with disabilities.

A structured programme will include football for young people who can only walk with the help of a frame, amputee football for people of all ages and gender and for people of working age who have a learning disability.

The Refugee Survival Trust gets more than £146,000 to provide crisis aid, legal advice and ongoing support to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing including emergency accommodation, washing facilities, food and toiletries.

Connect Community Trust has been awarded almost £137,000 to bring together the community of Easterhouse through a number of volunteer-run activities including allotments, community cafes, lunch and walking clubs, computing classes, community transport, sports and youth activities, older people's services and community events.

Active Seniors gets more than £85,000 to deliver a programme of events including the annual Day in the Park, tea dances, bus trips and networking events for the over 50s.

Shettleston Community Growing Project will get almost £128,000 to bring together the community in Shettleston and Tollcross through a local growing project.

The group will offer holiday and after school activities including outdoor activities, healthy eating, a volunteering programme, training and support with gardening, practical cooking sessions and community events.
