Some of the world's most famous works of art have been transformed into ‘masterpizzas’ by an Renaissance style artist.

Artist China Jordan recreated the paintings with a pizza-inspired twist to celebrate Glasgow’s love of Italian food.

Mona Lisa can now be seen eating a slice of pizza alongside the cherubs pondering a slice in the Sistine Madonna.

It took 16 weeks to recreate five famous works from the lies of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.

The pizza-art will be exhibited at chosen Domino’s stores, including in Shawlands, to launch the new range of authentic Italian pizza.

New additions to the menu come after research showed that the people of Glasgow have evolved their taste palette with prosciutto ham, chorizo and goat's cheese all among the region’s favourite pizza toppings.

Renaissance style artist China Jordan said: “Italy is known as the birthplace of both renaissance art and pizza so perhaps it’s only natural that the two would be fused together at some point.

"Reimagining and recreating the work of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci has naturally been challenging – and painting pizza into pictures is certainly a first for me – but I hope my paintings or ‘masterpizzas’ can raise a smile in the pizz-art galleries around the country.”
