DRIVERS are being warned of road closures in Glasgow next Sunday while the annual Santa Dash takes place.

Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the festive fun run, which saw more than 6000 people take part last year.

The event will raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity and is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

A traffic management plan will be in place from until about 1pm, when roads should re-open.

Affected areas include Cochrane Street, George Square, West George Street, Nelson Mandela Place, Hanover Street, North Hannover Street, Montrose Street, Ingram Street, Queen Street and South Frederick Street.

Other closures will be St Vincent Place, Anchor Lane, Dundas Lane, Dundas Street, Renfield Street,  Union Street, St Vincent Street, Renfield Street, Union Street, West Nile Street,  West Nile Street Hope Street, Bothwell Street, Wellington Street, Douglas Street, Blythswood Street, Pitt Street and Holland Street.

Finally, drivers should watch out for Newton Street,  North Street,  Argyle Street, Elliot Street, Finnieston Street, Lancefield Quay,  Anderston Quay, Broomielaw,  Oswald Street, Mitchell Street, Buchanan Street,  Jamaica Street and the A814 (Clydeside Expressway).

All funds raised from the event will help the charity provide vital specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research based staff.

The cash will also help fund enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments and research projects to support the 8000 new patients and their families who attend the Beatson.
