A KNIFE attack on a pensioner and his son, which happened in broad daylight at their Ballieston home, is being treated as attempted murder.

The 71-year-old and the 45-year-old are fighting for their lives after a brutal knife raid at Loancroft Place on Friday at midday.

Officers investigating the incident, involving Dennis McCowan and son Mark, believe they know the identities of the attackers.

The armed thugs broke into the family home when Dennis's wife Christine answered the door.

It is understood that the OAP was attacked in his bed while his son Mark was stabbed in the stomach so hard, the knife pierced his back.

Mark was able to stagger from the home in Baillieston to a neighbouring house to try and escape.

Both men were taken to hospital and yesterday their condition was described as "serious".

Christine is currently being looked after by neighbours.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Both attacks are being treated as attempted murder.

"Officers are pursuing a definite line of inquiry."
