FORMER Rangers player Kyle Lafferty has been disqualified from driving for six months for speeding.
The 28-year-old pled guilty through a lawyer’s letter earlier this year to driving at 47mph on Paisley Road West, a 30 mph road in May.
Initially a lawyer’s firm from England, acting on his behalf, tendered the plea for him and sent email correspondence to Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace Court about an exceptional hardship hearing.
Lafferty, from Northern Ireland, has since changed solicitor who did not ask the court for a hearing to be set.
On Tuesday, Michael Lyon from a Glasgow road traffic firm represented Lafferty at the court when he was sentenced.
Mr Lyon said Lafferty is a professional sportsman and can pay any fine.
He said: “Because of the previous convictions he’s aware of the consequences of accumulating 12 points within a three year period and has nothing further to say about that.”
Lafferty was given a £350 fine reduced from £500 and three points which took him over the threshold for disqualification and resulted in a six month ban.
