A Scot has posted video footage online of the moment his Sottish £5 note was refused as payment in London.
Ian Hardie tried to pay for his meal at the Marble Arch branch of popular fast food chain McDonald's with a Scottish £5 note, but the cashier point blank refused to accept it as legal tender.
Ian, from Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, made several attempts to pay for his food with the note, but she wouldn't budge.
The moment was captured on video and Ian took to Facebook saying:"Here's me, having my Scottish £5 refused in McDonald's, Marble Arch, London."
The video has since gone viral and been viewed over 436,000 times.
This is the latest incident involving Scottish notes after a chain of chemists banned Scottish bank notes from their stores amid claims forgeries were rife across the UK.
Gloucester-based Badham Pharmacy said it decided to stop accepting the notes because they are some of the most counterfeited in the country.
The firm acknowledged the money can be used in England but it draws a distinction between “legal tender” and “legal currency”.
