A NEW supermarket which has created 16 jobs was officially opened by school pupils in Barrhead yesterday.
A £510K investment was put into the Co-op on Paisley Road which was officially opened by school pupils from Cross Arthurlie Primary school.
Andy Baxter, store manager, said: “We are delighted to have made such a significant investment in Barrhead, opening the Co-op’s newest food store is an exciting time for the whole team.”
The store will also bring a funding boost to community groups through the Co-op’s new Membership scheme.
Co-op members receive a 5% reward on purchases of own-brand products and services, with a further 1% going local causes to make a difference in the community.
Groups set to benefit in the Barrhead area include Neilstone Development Trust, Neilstone and Uplawmoor First Responders and Roar – Connections for Life.
Local causes interested in benefiting from the next round of funding have until December 16 to apply by visiting https://causes.coop.co.uk/.
