A SCHOOL torched by petrol bomb vandals is to reopen on Monday.

Gowanbank Primary school in Pollok was set alight on Wednesday December 7, around 6.30pm.

As previously reported, the school was one of two targets vandals attacked that night.

Their attempts to petrol bomb the 3Hills Community garden on the site of Cleeves Primary school failed, but was spotted by staff on CCTV.

Yobs carrying petrol cannisters were seen hurling flaming bottles into the garden an hour before nearby Gowanbank was set alight.

Glasgow City Council were forced to shut Gowanbank for two days due to the level of damage, however have now confirmed they will be opening the doors again on Monday.

Staff from contractors City Building will be working at the fire-hit school this weekend to restore the electricity supply, before children are allowed back in.

A council spokeswoman confirmed workers would still be at the school next week, and access to the gym hall would be blocked.

However she confirmed the school's Christmas fayre and nativity play would still go ahead as normal.

Locals and parents have rallied round the school for the second time this year, after it was trashed by vandals in July.

Many have offered their support and help in clearing up and getting the building back to normal.
