GLASGOW’S universities and more than 700 students will be battling it out to become the city’s best sporting institution.
As part of Glasgow Taxis cup, students will compete in a full day event featuring athletics, badminton and basketball.
Now in its 13th year, the cup has been won by Glasgow University eight times with Strathclyde following closely behind with four victories.
Much of the sporting action will take place at Scotstoun Sports Campus, Stepps playing fields and GCU Arc.
Lauren Ramage, Student President Glasgow Caledonian University Students Association, said: “Participating in sport at university is a great way for students to lead an active lifestyle and build their confidence through these social networks, the Glasgow Taxis Cup is the pinnacle sports event of the year for GCU students, we’ll be ready to face our biggest rivals in March.”
Ruari Thomson, Sports President Glasgow University Sports Union, also had fighting talk. He said: “Glasgow University teams are confident about defending the title, we’ve been champions since 2011. We’re looking forward to a great day of sports competition.”
The event will take place on March 15 and will be supported by sponsors Glasgow Taxis Ltd.
