RANGERS are sweating on the fitness of skipper Lee Wallace ahead of the trip to St Johnstone and Old Firm clash with Celtic this week.

The left-back was injured in the closing stages of the win over Inverness Caley Thistle on Christmas Eve and will continue to be assessed ahead of the journey to Perth on Wednesday.

Wallace received treatment on the park towards the end of the 1-0 win and spent the final few minutes out of position in attack as Warburton’s side held on for a crucial three points.

He said: “We’ll see how he is. We thought it was an impact from the corner.

"We thought he had had a bang there. We’ll see how he presents.

“He’s captain, he’s an international. Of course he is a good-quality player, but Lee Hodson can go left-back, James Tavernier can go right-back. So we have the cover in place.”
