A MAN is due in court today over the death of a man in North Glasgow on Christmas day.

Police Scotland’s Greater Glasgow Division confirmed yesterday that the 35-year-old had been arrested and detained in police custody in connection with the death of Thomas Roberts.

Mr Roberts, 43, died within hospital after he was allegedly attacked on Ashgill Road, Saracen at around 4am on Sunday.

The Milton man was with another man, 50, who was also allegedly attacked.

It is understood that the pair were walking a dog in the back courts.

The other man was also rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but has since been released.

Police also say the man they have arrested is in addition being reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with an alleged assault on a 50-year-old man.

Mr Roberts leaves behind wife Angie and daughters Demi, 23, and Brooklyn, 14, and Demi’s young daughter.

His heartbroken daughter Brooklyn previously paid tribute to her father on the social networking website Facebook.

She added a photo of herself as a baby with her dad and told her followers: “Worst news was waking up on Christmas morning to find out my dad had been found dead outside late this morning.

“All I can say is heaven has gained another angel, I love you so much dad fly high.”

Thomas’s cousin Elizabeth Cunningham has started an online fundraising campaign in the hope wellwishers will donate money to help pay for funeral costs.

She wants to raise £2,000 towards the funeral and already the campaign has received donations of over £700.

She said: “Thomas didn’t deserve this.”

She added: “I would like to raise enough to give him the best send off going.”
