GLASGOW'S vegan community is being invited to a special New Year event.

The Admiral will play host to a celebration of all things meat-free on Friday from 8pm with talks from animal activists and music from vegan icon Morrissey and The Smiths.

The event has been organised by Save Movement Scotland, Earthlings Experience Scotland and Go Vegan Scotland.

Glasgow was named vegan capital of Scotland earlier this year.

All funds raised from the event will go towards bringing animal rights activist James Aspey over from his native Australia for a series of talks and workshops.

Lynn Jolly, event organiser, said: "Glasgow is renowned for being the nation's Vegan capital, so we couldn’t ask for a better setting and The Admiral has very kindly given us the venue for free in a strong show of support.

"We have lots of very active activists in Glasgow and we hope this will be a night to remember for all of us."

Tickets, priced £5, are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/378496 or http://tickets-scotland.com/hap00
