A MAN held a knife to his neck and threatened to harm himself during a family dispute.

Robert Harold McDonald, 27, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to several charges which saw him behave in an threatening manner on November 1.

The incident happened at the family home in Knightswood's Great Western Road.

He admitted that he shouted, swore and adopted an aggressive stance during the incident.

He also accepted that he refused to leave when he was asked to do so, and that he repeatedly kicked a door and windows.

He also threatened to smash the windows.

Sentencing Sheriff Kenneth Hogg questioned an additional charge that McDonald assaulted his father.

The charge stated that during the assault, he grabbed his father and pulled him to the ground which caused him to strike furniture to his injury.

The court heard that his father was not assaulted and just fell over during the course of the incident.

The Procurator Fiscal depute, however, said: "The summary I have would suggest the gentleman was assaulted and that was the information that was passed to the police."

McDonald also plead guilty to an additional charge of throwing a brick through the living room window.

McDonald's defence agent told the court that his client now had the full support of the family and had even asked him to request bail conditions outlining he must not approach them be removed.

He said: "They explained to me it was uncharacteristic of him and they wish to get him some help."

Sheriff Hogg deferred sentence until March 29 and told McDonald: "You know yourself you can't do what you did that particular day."
