SEVERAL people including a 2-year-old boy have been rushed to hospital following a serious road crash in Airdrie.
The crash happened on Coatbridge Road at around 7.50pm on Thursday.
Police say a black coloured Ford Fiesta was travelling south along the B803, Coatbridge Road, Glenmavis when it collided with a grey coloured Mitsubishi Lancer travelling north on the B803.
Both cars were extensively damaged and the occupants of both vehicles were taken to Monklands District Hospital.
A 36-year-old man, who was a passenger within the Mitsubishi Lancer, suffered a serious head injury. Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.
The other occupants of the Mitsubishi car - a woman, 33 and two boys, 13 and 2 - were also taken to hospital. They were later released following treatment.
The occupants of the Ford Fiesta, two teenage boys aged 17 and two girls, aged 14 and 15, were taken to Monklands hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not considered serious.
The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined the site.
Officers from Road Policing in Motherwell are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them at Motherwell Police Office via 101.
