It's the morning after the night before and you're already regretting having had 'just one more' before the over-priced taxi ride home.
There is no instant, magical cure to a hangover, but there are a few effective tips that can ease your suffering.
Eat something
Eating, even if it seems like the worst idea in the world, is really important for getting you on the road to recovery.
Depending on how bad you feel, a trusty fry-up is always a great option as they help replace fatty acids and break down the alcohol in your liver.
Eggs are a must-have as they contain taurine, which has been shown to reverse liver damage caused by alcohol.
If you’re feeling a bit too delicate to face a fry-up, opt for some mild flavoured carbohydrates such as wholemeal toast or crackers, which should give you a boost without upsetting your stomach.
Eating a banana will also help restore your balance.
Have a long shower
Having a shower can do wonders for your mind. Be careful not to make it too hot, otherwise the heat can go to your head and make you nauseous.
Painkillers
Ibuprofen is the most effective, but only take the recommended dose.
Aspirin will also relieve a headache, but it can also wreak havoc if you’ve got a sensitive stomach and potentially make you feel more sick.
Sleep it off
If you’re not going to be productive, you might as well just admit defeat and focus on getting the sleep you need to get back on form.
Avoid drinking coffee
Coffee may be the obvious choice for most hangover sufferers, but it’s actually a diuretic and causes your body to lose water quickly.
Drinking coffee after a night of alcohol also causes sweating and heart palpitations.
Milk will replace the calcium you’ve lost, while ginger tea can help with nausea.
Try some water or fruit juice instead.
Sunglasses
With hangovers, come migraines and with migraines, comes sensitivity to light.
The best thing that you can do is turn down the lights.
A pair of sunglasses can put a buffer between the intensity of light and the pain it could potentially cause your eyes.
Don't try hair of the dog
Drinking more alcohol might ease your pain for a few hours but it will only delay the inevitable.
