A CARE home nurse who pushed down on an elderly man's legs to force him to move and said: "stop acting stupid,' has been struck off.

Angela Bird later said to the resident: "What the f*** are you doing, are you taking the p***?"

An inquiry found that when a colleague commented on bruises on the elderly man, Ms Bird nodded and smiled and said it was because they "f***** off and left," or words to that effect.

The incident happened while Ms Bird was employed by Four Seasons Health Care at North Merchiston Care Home, in Edinburgh, on May 1 2014.

The resident involved was said to be 'particularly vulnerable' and was visibly distressed by the incident.

A panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council imposed the ultimate sanction on the nurse of a striking off order, which will come into effect on February 12.

She was suspended on October 22 2015.

The hearing concluded: "Miss Bird has provided no evidence of remorse or development of insight, nor any evidence of remediation in respect of her failings.

"The panel concluded that the only that the only sanction that would adequately protect the public and adequately serve the public interest at this stage, is a striking off order."
