POLICE have interviewed and are to re-interview all members of the family of solicitor's son Cameron Logan who was murdered in a "horrific" house fire in East Dunbartonshire.

Psychology graduate Cameron Logan, 23, died in the blaze at the family home in Achray Place, Milngavie, on New Year's day. His girlfriend, radio reporter Rebecca Williams, 24, has remained in a critical condition since.

It has emerged that Cameron was the son of David Logan, the corporate solicitor for Scotland's principal environmental regulator SEPA.

Mr Logan, and his wife Cathy, both 54, own the home, and with a neighbour went into the house to rescue Ms Williams. Both Mr and Mrs Logan needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Livingstone from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Teams all the members of the family have been "very co-operative and have been able to assist us.".

Glasgow Times:

"We have taken initial statements from them and understandably they are shocked and traumatised, and trying to come to terms with what has happened, and we will be looking to speak to them again in the coming days," he said.

"There is no information coming in that anyone had a grudge or that there was any fall out with the family members, so it is imperative that if anyone knows anything that they come forward, that will hopefully give that vital bit of information that will establish why this horrific crime has taken place."

Those being interviewed include the Logans' other son Blair, 26. It's not known if he was home at the time of the fire attack, in which the family dog Gomez also perished.

Police confirmed that Cameron Logan and his girlfriend had been at a house party on New Year's Eve near their home and it is believed they walked home in the early hours of Sunday morning before the fire broke out. Cameron's body was discovered inside the house at about 7.30am.

Some of the partygoers, a gathering of friends who had known each other for several years, have been interviewed by police, and DCI Livingstone said there was no evidence yet to suggest that anybody at the party was connected with what happened.

"Everybody was in good spirits, everybody was getting on, there were no fall outs or disagreements," said DCI Livingstone. "Partygoers have been spoken to and they are all understandably shocked and they are trying to assist us with our inquiries."

In a fresh appeal for help in tracing the killer, police appealed to those in the area who used a car dashcam, or who have private CCTV cameras at the time to come forward to help detectives. And they believe dog walkers and joggers in the area could also hold clues to what happened. "If someone knows who this [the killer] is, this type of person doesn't deserve to be protected," said DCI Livingstone.

"There's every chance that somebody knows or suspects who is responsible for this. I would say to that person, do the right thing, this type of person who does such a horrific, cowardly act does not deserve to be protected."

He said they were looking specifically for a dog walker and two joggers that were seen after officers reviewed CCTV in the surrounding area around the time of the fire.

"It's crucial that we speak to these people seen on CCTV as they may have seen something important, even unwittingly, that could really help with this investigation.

"They may have seen the dark-coloured car that reportedly had its engine running in the lay-by on Craigton Road or they may have seen other people out walking, driving, cycling or running - anything that could help us find who is responsible for this fatal fire."

The detective said he wanted to trace two other dog walkers who were believed to have been in the surrounding area at the time of the fire.

He said: "One man was seen in the Craigton Wood area around the time the fire was discovered and is described as being 5ft 11in, of medium build and wearing a grey hooded top with black trousers. He was walking a brown Pitbull dog on a lead.

"Another man wearing a dark top was seen walking along Craigton Road on to the West Highland Way with two Springer Spaniels."

He added: "I would ask that these people seen on CCTV in the area, or anyone else who was in the area on New Year’s morning, to please come forward. Even if you don’t think you have any information that could assist, please speak to our officers as often something you don’t see as relevant could be important to our investigation.

"A family is grieving for the son that they have lost and a young girl lies in critical condition in hospital. Please, if you have any information, no matter how small, please get in contact, as this person responsible must be caught."
