POLICE have launched an investigation after vile comments mocking popular Celtic fan Jay Beatty have appeared on an online forum used by Rangers supporters.

Several football fans posted derogatory comments about Down’s Syndrome on the Rangers media forum on a thread which discussed the Old Firm match at Ibrox which Celtic won 2-1.

A graphic was also created which made fun of both Jay, who has Down’s Syndrome, and model Katie Price’s son Harvey, who suffers from a rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi syndrome, as well as autism, ADHD and blindness.

Celtic fan page Let’s All Do The Huddle condemned the comments saying: “What has this wee boy done to any of them?

“Only hours after the game, he was posing with one Rangers fan and wearing his scarf.

“It was a nice moment appreciated by the Rangers fans.”

The posted added: “Those who obviously run that site need to start learning what is acceptable behaviour...not just in football circles but in the wider society in general.”

Many Rangers fan on the forum also hit out at the inappropriate posts.

One fan said: “He’s a little kid with a severe disability, loves his football team, helps to raise money for charity and gets to meet numerous celebrities.

“Only problem it seems by those on this thread is he wears the colours of his team.

“As a father of two kids with disabilities it’s pretty pathetic to rip into the wee lad simply because of who he supports and what he suffers with.”

The youngster, who is a Celtic FC Foundation Ambassador, celebrated with the players on the football pitch following the match.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm we have received a complaint regarding social media comments about Jay Beatty. Inquires are ongoing.”
