A PERVERT has been jailed for seven months after taking pictures on a mobile phone of two teenage girls intimate parts on a Glasgow train.

Russell Hammell, 56, appeared from custody in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after he was found guilty following a trial.

Hammell was found guilty of conducting himself in a disorderly manner towards the girls on a train between Dalmally and Glasgow Queen Street station on April 19, 2016.

He starred at both his victims who are aged 14 and 15.

Hammell photographed them without their consent on his mobile phone.

His charge sheet states that he recorded “photographic images of their clothed buttocks, thighs and private parts” on his phone which put the girls in a state of fear and alarm.

Hammell also had 11grams of cannabis resin in his possession at Glasgow Queen Street station on the same day.

The drugs are worth a total street value of £35.

Hammell, of Main Street, Clackmannan, defence agent told the court that his client had never been in trouble before.

The court also heard that he had refused visits from his family since he was remanded in custody following the trial on December 16 last year.

Sentencing Sheriff Kelly said he was particularly concerned about Hammell’s consumption of alcohol and drugs.

The court heard that the teenage victims described Hammell as “transfixed” and unaware of what was happening around him.

Hammell was sentenced to a total of seven months in prison for the offence.

He was also told that he would be subject to notifications as part of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Hammell was admonished for an additional charge of having Cannabis Resin in his possession.

He was told that his sentence would be backdated to December 16 when he was first remanded in custody.
