Police have launched a probe after a pensioner was found dead in the street this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Barrhead's Kirkton Avenue at around 6.10am.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 71-year-old's death.

A Post Mortem will take place to establish how the man died. 

The street was cordoned off and closed to the public.

It is situated close to Tesco supermarket.

A Barrhead business owner, who asked not to be named, said: "I was in the area at around 6.30am and there were multiple police cars, two ambulances and the forensics. They're still there."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police Enquiries are ongoing."
