A TEENAGER is hoping to become the next Giorgio Armani after launching his own clothing label.

Louis Carnan, from Castlemilk set up his brand Sixth Sided after leaving school last year with no qualifications.

The 16-year-old former Castlemilk High School pupil, said he always wanted to set up his own clothes business and as soon as he left school he was determined to succeed.

Now instead of going out with his pals, Louis spends every day working on his fashion empire.

He has now launched a line of branded t-shirts, has his own online shop and is in discussions with a major department store in Glasgow to sell his trendy products.

Louis said: “I’ve always been in to fashion and I’ve bought clothes from a young age. Michael Kors is my favourite designer, I think.

“My mum’s really into fashion and she works in House of Fraser so she’s been my inspiration.

“If all the fashion brands like Armani, Gucci and things can do it then so can I. They had to start somewhere.”

The teenager explained that he wasn’t interested in maths and English in school, and didn’t pay attention in class.

He said: “I’ve not got any grades at all. I left in May last year with nothing.

“I wasn’t interested in school at all, I didn’t see what it would do for me. I didn’t want to work in class, I wanted to just get on with my life and do my own thing.

“I try to keep a really positive mindset, and everyone doubts me because I’m so young but I’ve got really high hopes for what I want to achieve.”

Advisors at Business Gateway have been helping Louis look for grant funding, and he has been busy over the last few months designing the logo for his new brand.

Although just now his range is based on t-shirts, he hopes in the future to expand to other types of clothing and accessories.

Louis said he wants to inspire other wants to inspire other young people who do not always succeed at school, and said: “ It’s not the end of the world, as long as you’re motivated and positive, to leave school without qualifications.

“I decided the system wasn’t doing me any good and was dampening and ambitions.

“I left as soon as I could – even before gaining any qualifications.

“There are many routes to employment and going through the education system is just one of them.

“People should believe in creating your own opportunities and I think that taking the path less travelled is a good option especially with so many young people now opting for college or university.”
